Allan Maclean Skinner
SKINNER, Allan Maclean. Called to the bar June 1867; appointed, after competitive examination, to the civil service of the Straits Settlements November 1868; appointed Acting Sheriff of Singapore after qualifying in Malay January 1871; confirmed April 1871; appointed Acting Magistrate Province Wellesley, Penang, April 1871; accompanied, July 1871, expedition to Selangor; appointed January 1873 Inspector of Schools to report on state of education; also Inspector of Prisons, Hospitals and Asylums for the Colony; attended the Governor at Pangkor during negotiations with the headmen of Perak January 1874; in August gazetted Acting Assistant Colonial Secretary and Clerk of Council; appointed Acting Postmaster-General February 1876.
